C.H.E.F. Camp Success Stories
2022
East and West Carroll Parish
East and West Carroll Parish CHEF Camp 2022 was a big success!
All of our participants were eager to learn and wanted to be hands on. They learned about food safety, handwashing, and general cooking terms/measurements. In East Carroll, the Cotton Museum provided a glimpse back in time, as well as, a brief history lesson. The children really enjoyed learning and were very enthusiastic. As the camp progressed, the abilities and confidence of the children greatly improved. The camaraderie and team building efforts were a joy to watch and be a part of. In conclusion, the experience and knowledge gained by these participants will be something that they carry forward into their daily lives. This is something that we strive for in our quest to impart healthy eating/lifestyles early on in their lives.

The C.H.E.F camp was held at the Ascension Parish Sheriff Office sub-station in Donaldsonville, La.. Students learned tips from MyPlate and enjoyed making smoothies and other enjoyable healthy snacks. Campers of all ages were in attendance; however, focus was given to campers 9-12 years of age for the C.H.E.F camp experience.

MADISON
Thanks to our sponsors and partners this summer 2022, I decided to partner C.H.E.F. Camp with 4-H’s Food and Fitness Camp, and our local Non-Profit Organization The Sylbyl Denver Training Facility, INC. to create fun environment that would encompass the entire C.H.E.F. Camp curriculum of creating healthy and enjoyable foods with a twist of educational fun and exercise.
The children had a chance to explore different vegetables types, and to safely chop and prepare their own ingredients for their pizza, which included yellow, green and red bell peppers, onions, ground turkey, Italian sausage, turkey pepperoni, and regular pepperoni. We also used low sodium pizza sauce, and mixed shredded cheese. Reviewing exactly what food groups we were using at the time.
Throughout the week the children were taught to make quesadillas, garden variety spaghetti, baked potato wedge fries, whole wheat pancakes with blueberries, strawberries and bananas .
We were sponsored by Doug’s IGA local grocery store, the 4-H Foundation, the wonderful partners from The Sylbyl-Denver Training Facility, INC.
